'Each year, Fellows are selected from across the country and paired with acclaimed female, non-binary, and gender nonconforming composers who act as individual Mentors. Fellows work with Mentors via biweekly lessons on online platforms to create a new work that will premiere in New York City.
The season culminates in a weeklong festival in New York City, which includes the world premiere performance of the Fellows’ work in addition to attending performances, masterclasses, workshops, backstage tours, concerts, and networking events.' More information can be found here |
Wildflower Composers '22 | July 11-22
The Wildflower Composers Festival (formerly the Young Women Composers Camp) will take place this summer at Temple University.
We are looking forward to our return to in-person programming this July! Our 2022 festival is open to any gender-marginalized student who is between the ages of 13 and 19. This summer, we will welcome an incredible faculty of composers and performers to lead students in group classes, private lessons, workshops, and a world premiere performance of new compositions. BI Mentorship Program '21 | June-Dec

'Lack of access to a gender-marginalized composition mentor is one of the biggest barriers keeping young women composers from being successful in their field. We founded this program to enable composers of marginalized genders to be mentored by established figures in the field of composition on the career skills and professional development elements that are often overlooked and left out of many composition degree programs, so they may be better equipped for building a successful career in composition.
The mentees will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops to learn how to get ahead in the industry. There is no application fee, and the cost of tuition, valued at $2,500 per mentee, is covered by Boulanger Initiative for each mentee selected. This opportunity is open to women and composers of marginalized genders at any stage in their career, ages 22 and older, from anywhere in the world. Boulanger Initiative exists to create social change and more inclusion in the arts industry, and any artist who is underrepresented is especially encouraged to apply.' Young Women Composer's Camp '21
'The Young Women Composers Camp is a two-week music festival for students who are interested in pursuing a career in music composition or a related field. Students will take courses on a broad range of topics related to composition, which vary each summer and are taught by a mix of core instructors and guest faculty. Students also receive two private lessons from core faculty and compose a new piece, which is performed at our final concert by a professional ensemble.'
Our 2021 camp will be online, and a full season announcement, including all personnel, is now available here. |
